Tombow "Roll Pen" in Brushed Stainless circa 1985
Available in 3 colors: Black, Burgundy (Wine) & Blue. Brushed stainless rollerball with plastic trim and section that match the ink color. Snap cap with "ROLL PEN" embossed under clip. "TOMBOW JAPAN" embossed on back of cap. Original (but dried out) refills included with some pens. Refills dated pen to 1985. Made in Japan. Very unique pen.
Tombow's "ROLL PEN" is scarcely documented, as most Tombow information in English only appears after the late 1980s. After the late '80s, Tombow began to refer to it as a "roll" or "rollerball" instead of a "Roll Pen". These pens were found with other rare Tombow rollerballs from the same time. 1985 was prior to the time Tombow marketed heavily in North American. They were likely given to Mr. C of the Write Shop in Los Angeles as samples from an early Tombow salesperson. My Japanese friend is surprised Dale had something like this in our inventory. Though Tombow is well know in Japan, it was basically unknown in America at the time of production.
