He-Man Barrel Pliers
HEAVY DUTY BARREL & SECTION PLIERS. This is another obsolete item I've brought back into production after finding them in old time pen repairmen's tool kits and then finding out that nobody made them anymore. Now they are back, much more comfortable, durable, and suited for high resolution work than the less expensive stamped-out sheet metal versions. Optimally sized for most pen barrels and 6 3/4" long. Underneath the rubber sleeves there are no serrations or teeth in the jaws. One of our best selling tools! A must have for your pen repair tool kit.
In addition to gripping/turning cylindrically shaped objects, these are the only tool I've found that I can use to remove the tiered or tapered jewels from the top of the caps of Parker 75s, 45s, and similar pens without tearing up the plating on the tassie. This is the most successful method of removing the tassie from a 75 according to the colleague of mine that runs the Parker 75 web site:
1) Lay these pliers on the bench in front of you and squeeze the handles with one hand. Don't try to squeeze the tassie with the pliers while they are up in the air.
2) Hold the pen in your other hand and cram the tassie into the rubber pocket formed by the rubber coated jaws.
3) Try turning the pen counter clockwise being carful not to damage the clip. Heating the tassie end of the cap before doing this step will help.
4) This doesn't work 100% of the time (nothing does), but it is the most successful way of doing it according to the guy that owns the Parker 75 web site (and me, too).
