The most common missing jewel/clip screws that used to be on standard size Vacs before they fell out usually can be replaced by JEWEL E which has a 0.26 inch top diameter and uses a 10-32 thread to go into the pen without a metal bushing to hold the clip on with.
Similarly (but smaller), Jewel F which has a 0.23 inch top diameter and uses a 10-32 thread to go into the pen fits on blind caps on most standard size double jewel Vacs.
Jewels C & D have the common 0.26 inch top diameter found on Standard and Deb size Vacs but they use 4-40 (which are smaller than 10-32) or 3-56 (smallest) threads, respectively. These small threads need a brass bushing to go into. The brass bushing allows you to easily tighten the clip ring on the cap, using our Tool 13732, a self centering wrench . The notes on the photos below explain how to tell if your bushing has a 4-40 or a 3-56 thread.
Here are some notes from Ron Zorn on jewel & bushing threads: "The larger 4-40 holes for the stems were used on the second generation Vacumatics and on the Vacumatic filled Parker 51. They changed to the smaller stem and thread size in the bushing with the aerometric 51. The threads on the outside are indeed 10-32, but if you have an aerometric, you'll need the smaller A bushing."
You CAN use different threads than what were originally used by changing the bushing thread size; this is needed if you are using our grey/silver jewels for Parker 51 caps, you may need to do this if you need to put one of our repro 51 jewels/clip screws on a 51 cap that has a 4-40 hole, you may need to change out the 4-40 bushing with a 3-56 bushing.
With the jewels that use a 10-32 thread to go into the pen there is no screw slot to tighten things down with so you need to use something like a gooey cube to tighten them down.
We have taps with all three of the above threads to chase either the threads in your cap or the threads in your bushing. Listed on our Parker Cap Repair Tools menu item.
