Parker Body, Front end and Filling Unit Repair Tools
ITEM #D29: PARKER VACUMATIC FILLING UNIT EJECTOR SET WITH TWO DIAMETERS OF EJECTORS for REMOVAL of STUCK VAC FILLING UNITS. INCLUDES DIAPHRAGM SEAT CLEANER / SCRAPER.Click here for larger, easier to see PDF slides describing this complex tool... Use your browser's back arrow to return here
THIS TOOL IS INTENDED TO HELP REMOVE VACUMATIC FILLING UNITS FROM THE BARRELS OF STANDARD (STD) AND DEBUTANT (DEB) VACS AFTER THE THREADED SHOULDER IS UNSCREWED FROM THE BACK OF THE BARREL AND THE FILLING UNIT STILL DOESN’T WANT TO PULL OUT. THESE EJECTORS ARE INTENDED TO AVOID DAMAGE TO OR THE PULLING APART OF THE FILLING UNIT IF IT IS STUCK IN THE BARREL. TO USE THE LARGER DIAMETER FILLING UNIT EJECTOR (THE ONE WITH THE SEAT SCRAPER ON THE OTHER END), THE SECTION MUST BE OFF THE PEN BARREL IN ORDER FOR THE EJECTOR TO FIT INTO THE BARREL. THE LARGER DIAMETER EJECTOR WILL FIT THROUGH ALMOST ALL STANDARD SIZED (STD) AND DEBUTANT (DEB) SIZED BARRELS / DIAPHRAGM SEATS ONCE THE SECTION IS OFF. THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST OPTION. REMOVAL OF THE REMAINS OF THE OLD DIAPHRAGM THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE PEN SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED BEFORE USING EITHER EJECTOR AS IT WILL GET IN THE WAY OF EJECTOR OPERATION.
IF YOU WANT TO TRY USING A FILLING UNIT EJECTOR WITHOUT TAKING THE SECTION OFF, THE SMALLER DIAMETER EJECTOR (D29 B) WILL FIT THROUGH THE SECTIONS OF 50% OF THE STANDARD VACS OUT THERE. FOR DEBS AND THE OTHER HALF OF THE STANDARD SIZED VACS, YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SECTION OFF TO USE EITHER OF THESE EJECTORS. BUT IT IS NOT UNCOMMON TO REMOVE THE SECTION DURING RESTORATION ANYWAY. SECTION REMOVAL ALSO FACILITATES REMOVAL OF THE OLD DIAPHRAGM WHICH WOULD GET IN THE WAY OF EJECTOR OPERATION.
SIZING SUMMARY FOR EJECTORS:
_____________________________
LARGER DIAMETER EJECTOR:
_______________________
- YOU NEED TO HAVE SECTION OFF OF BARREL TO GET TO FILLING UNIT OF STD. OR DEB. VACS.
- IT WILL PASS THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DIAPHRAGM SEAT OF 96% OF VACS – I’VE CHECKED 50.
- IT IS THE PREFERRED TOOL OF THE TWO DIAMETERS AS IT ENCAPSULATES THE WHOLE HARD RUBBER PELLET RETAINER IN THE END OF THE FILLING UNIT.
- YOU SHOULD FISH OUT AS MUCH OF THE OLD DIAPHRAGM AS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE BARREL BEFORE USING THE EJECTOR.
________________________________
SMALLER DIAMETER EJECTOR (D29 B):
________________________________
– YOU CAN LEAVE THE SECTION ON AND STILL GET INTO THE BARREL WITH D29 B FOR 50% OF THE STD VACS, BUT YOU NEED TO FISH OUT AS MUCH OF THE OLD DIAPHRAGM AS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE SECTION.
- D29 B WON’T GO THROUGH THE SECTION OF A DEB OR OF ABOUT 50% OF STD VACS - You have to take the section off for those.

THE D29 DIAPHRAGM SEAT SCRAPER / CLEANER:
__________________________________________
-IT'S BUILT INTO THE OPPOSITE END OF THE LARGER DIAMETER VAC FILLING UNIT EJECTOR.
-THE TWO ROUND NUTS ON THE BACK OF THE SCRAPER CAN BE LOCKED TOGETHER TO SET THE DEPTH THAT THE SCRAPER BLADE GOES INTO THE BARREL.
-IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO USE THE LOCKING DEPTH ADJUSTING NUTS IF YOU AIM THE SHAFT STRAIGHT AND GO GENTLY WHILE SCRAPING THE SEAT. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO PUSH VERY HARD WHILE TURNING THE BLADE TO GET A GOOD, CLEAN SEAT FOR THE NEW DIAPHRAGM. IF THE SCRAPING ACTION IS ROUGH, BACK OFF SLIGHTLY UNTIL IT GOES SMOOTHLY WHILE SCRAPING.
-THE DEPTH OF THE SEAT VARIES FROM PEN TO PEN, SO IF YOU USE THIS TOOL WITH THE DEPTH ADJUSTERS IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO ADJUST THE DEPTH FOR EACH PEN. TO DO SO, BACK THE NUTS OFF, INSERT THE SCRAPER UNTIL YOU FEEL IT LAND ON THE DIAPHRAGM SEAT AND SCREW THE FRONT ROUND NUT FORWARD AND HOLD IT IN THAT POSITION WHILE YOU TIGHTEN THE BACK ROUND NUT UP AGAINST THE FRONT ROUND NUT TO LOCK THE DEPTH SETTING.
-NOTE 1: 15% OF THE VACS OUT THERE HAVE A HOLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DIAPHRAGM SEAT THAT IS LARGER THAN THAT OF THE OTHER 85% OF THE PEN POPULATION SO THE SCRAPER SLIDES BY THE SEAT OF THAT 15% WITHOUT MAKING CONTACT. Do not hammer on the ejector or slam it onto the bench top; If it won't come out while pushing, put a glove on and push the ejector into the pen by

- Note 2: The Vac barrels shown in the photos have been cut in half along the length so you are looking at the inside of the barrel and diaphragm seat.

ITEM #BUD BURR: PARKER VAC BALL REMOVAL BURR - ALSO GREAT FOR REMOVING SHEARED-OFF CLIP SCREW ("JEWEL") THREADS FROM CLIP BUSHINGS. An ideal tool for putting a pinhole in the ball left over from a deteriorated diaphragm in a Parker Vacumatic. This will leave a hole the correct size for a pick to follow and complete the ball rremoval job. Small enough to fit through the hole that the filling unit has in it. You may want to add liquid (as a lubricant - diluted detergent solutions work well) followed by a little heat to soften things up and avoid damaging the brittle hard rubber socket that some Vacs use. DON'T USE A HEAT GUN!!! Use this tool in a rotary tool such as a Dremel or flex-shaft grinder in conjunction with a pick. This has a 3/32" shaft. Another helpfull tool for this job is a vacumatic ball drilling shield to protect hard rubber sockets from damage while boring a hole in the ball. We also supply replacement hard rubber ball retainers for Vac diaphragms, as well as complete Vac filling units.

ITEM #WHEEL BURR: A PARKER VAC TOOL TO HELP IN THE CLEAN -OUT OF HARDENED RESIDUE REMAINING IN THE DIAPHRAGM SOCKET AFTER THE BALL IS REMOVED. Use this tool in a rotary tool such as a Dremel or flex-shaft grinder in conjunction with a pick. This has a 3/32" shaft.

ITEM #GOOEY CUBE: THE MOST NON-SKID, STICKY, SEMI-RIGID SURFACE I'VE FOUND IN MY 28 YEARS OF PEN REPAIR. These are great for turning-out Parker jewels (clip screws). You hold the jewel up against this surface while turning in a counter clockwise direction (after prescribed preparation of the pen cap - click the link below) and the job is a lot simpler than it used to be. Of course, nobody would be able to guarantee a successful jewel removal using any method except maybe drilling, but these things enable me to come close. According to Stuart Hawkinson, renown maker of tooling for our avocation and an enthusiastic Gooey Cube user, "Gooey Cubes are the best thing to come along since Portland Microbrew. As an experienced Parker Cap Repairer, this tool has never failed me." Click to read more...

HT-B = 0.076” – good for aluminum pellet retainers.
HT-BC: one side = 0.061” - good for hard rubber pellet retainers & the other side = 0.076” - good for aluminum pellet retainers.

ITEM # HT-BC: VACUMATIC PELLET REMOVER
This tool replaces both HT-B and HT-C. HT-A and HT-B are still available and are listed below. HT-C is no longer available.
This tool (HT-BC) has different sized scoops on each end. It has the smaller size of the old HT-C scoop for use on hard rubber Vacumatic pellet retainers on one side and on the other side it has the larger scoop the same size as the HT-B for use in removing Vac pellets from the larger aluminum pellet retainers. Both tools have been incorporated into this one tool which replaces them both (HT-B and HT-C). Works great for removing Vac pellets from both types of pellet retainers. This is a double sided tool with different sized ends on each side. Again, don’t get the idea that you’re just going to reach in there and pluck that ball out while it’s cold, dry, and tight. You need to follow the ball removing instructions under “REPAIRING A VACUMATIC FILLING UNIT” in the “Tools for Parker Bodies and Filling Units” menu item on the “TOOLS” page (About the 3rd item down). That should help you ease the pellet out without damage to the pellet retainer. Made from German Stainless steel.

ITEM #HT-C: Back by popular demand! We've re-manufactured & stocked this classic Pentooling pick. It is a double sided spoon for removing the balls from a smaller hard rubber pellet reatiner. It has .061" wide spoon at both ends. The HT-C is especially useful when removing Vacumatic diaphragm balls during restoration. It is a favorite tool of Mike Kennedey.
This tool is the same as the HT-BC "C" side and is identical on both ends.

ITEM # HT-A: A well defined spoon shape that works great for removing the diaphragm pellets from aluminum Vacumatic filling unit sockets. This size is a little tight inside a hard rubber Vacumatic socket. (See HT-BC for that application). The filling unit pellet fits right into the curvature of the spoon. This is a double sided tool with identical ends on each side. Don’t get the idea that you’re just going to reach in there and pluck that pellet out while it’s cold, dry, and tight. You need to follow the pellet removing instructions under “REPAIRING A VACUMATIC FILLING UNIT” in the “Tools for Parker Bodies and Filling Units” menu item on the “TOOLS” page (About the 3rd item down).
